My last post mentioned how my thinking has been challenged by hanging out at Fred Wilson’s blog A VC. In particular, two of Fred's recent posts have started my wheels spinning – the one shared in my post on Social Media as Recruiting Context and another about the findings shown in the Morgan Stanley Internet Trends Report (page 12) showing that social networking has usurped email. I won’t repeat all of Fred’s thoughts in this blog post, but if you are interested in this type of thing, I urge you to click over to his post.
I realized that I am one of the people represented in this report -- at least in my personal relationships, general networking and professional relationship building. In my case, it’s not that social networking has replaced email but that I communicate more frequently and to a broader range of people utilizing social media. I will still use email quite heavily in my work for the foreseeable future because of the type and amount of information I must convey...and because there are still some who are resistant to social media which is a pity.
How do the Morgan Stanley findings compare to your experience?
